Love Your Candle And It Will Love You Back

Did you know that your candles need some lovin' from time to time? It's not just a one-way street! While some candles are more finicky than others, they all need a little maintenance - hopefully not too much! Here are some tips and tricks to keep your candle performing at it's best.

3 Tips To Light Your Fire

This is easily the single most important factor in determining how your candle will perform for the rest of it's life. No pressure! Don't worry, it's pretty easy actually. Just make sure you allocate enough time for your candle to melt all the way to the edge of the glass before you blow it out. It should take at least a couple of hours. Try to repeat this for each burn. This will prevent the dreaded "tunneling" effect that basically ruins your candle and therefore your whole day.

The First Burn.

Don't Leave It On Too Long. As a general rule, candles are not recommended to be burned for more than 2-4 hours at a time. It's easy to be naughty and break this rule. But, don't. For our candles, we recommend extinguishing them as soon as the top has fully melted. Why, you might ask? Combining this with the next step will drastically prolong the life of your candles - that's why!

Little Wick Syndrome. I know some prefer big wicks, but we have to go little here. It's just the way it is. Trim your wick before each burn. Depending on the candle, you're going to want to trim it to 1/4"-1/8." Wick trimmers work great for this, as do nail clippers. If you're using one of our candles and feel like getting dirty, you can actually just break off the charred wood with your fingers. This is going to stop your candle from emitting soot into the air. It also keeps the flame smaller, and your candle disappears more slowly.

Does This Apply To All Candles?

Yes, although some may be more sensitive than others. Even if you typically don't follow these steps and your candle seems perfectly fine, you'll get more life out of your candle this way.

Before & After Trimming. What a difference an inch of wood can make.

A proper trim means a proper burn
